A Service Interruption

So you might have noticed that new chapters have gone from regular at l33t-o’clock Fridays to…patchy and irregular.

First of all, sorry for that.

Second…I’m taking a hiatus from Cookie. I still love the world, and this isn’t the last you’ve seen of it, I’m just a bit burned out on it at the moment, so I need to step back. Every time I’ve tried to write Cookie over the last couple of months, it’s either been hard, or not there at all. :/

As a bit of an attempt to kickstart my writing, and punch my writer’s block in the face, I’ve started work on another series – gasp, a non-Cookie series, and anyone who knows me knows how significant that is.

To anyone who doesn’t, let me put it this way: I’ve been working on Cookie for about the last ten years, in that time, I haven’t written in any other world, or done any series planning that couldn’t be slotted into the existing worldbuilding.

If you’d like to see what I’ve been working on, I’ve put up a teaser chapter here – Sarah Vimes is the nom-de-plume I’m using for this new world – new genre, new name.

In short: it’s a world in the aftermath of a magical girl war. Dozens of cities have been destroyed, classism is even more nightmarish than it is in reality, and spirits are an everyday reality.

…and if you need another reason to take a peek, our main characters are a dad and his adopted daughter.

I cheated, and used Stef and Ryan as a jumping-off point, these characters aren’t them, but they share a bit of the same soul.

I would really appreciate if you all took a look, and left a comment or three – letting me know if it’s something you’d like to see continued; or if you only want to read Cookie-related stuff from me.

Paging Vincent and Jedidusk: This is the best thing ever.

    I’m torn.

On the one hand . . . Cooooooooooookie.

On the other hand . . . I really want to see more of this new world you’ve crafted.

Oh, trust me, I know the Coooooookie feeling. Like I said in the post above, this is the first time I’ve done something other than Cookie in a years, so I’m getting some separation anxiety.

On the other hand…this new world is kind of fun too. 🙂

On the one hand, I would like to see more Cookie. (… So burning out on it is bad.)

On the other hand, that new world is really interesting too, and has already made me want to see more of it.

On the third, I figure that if writing in this new world helps you get past writer’s block and avoid a complete burnout, then that’s positive for many reasons (and means that you could get back to Cookie sooner than you would without it).

(Same also goes for the hiatus, assuming it doesn’t become permanent. I can be patient for good things like this.)

So… I see only positives here. Meaning that not only would I like for you to continue writing that new world (assuming that it does in fact help or at least not hurt), I would also like to read what you write there. 🙂 (I already bookmarked it.)

I really don’t want it to become permanent.

Like, there are so many different stories I want to tell – books that could be done as one-off novels, novels that explore different aspects of the world that may or may not involve the Agency.

Like…there’s a mermaid story I’ve been wanting to do forever, about a lesbian mermaid couple uncovering a plot to kill the elemental incarnation of the worlds’ oceans, and how that would completely mess with their society forever.

I’m just glad that it sounds like you are basically OK; I was worried about you during the pause in cookie chapters, so I am glad you posted this.

I had wanted to say something earlier, but I had been living with the false hope that I’d be able to get back on track after a couple of missed chapters. :/
